(psst you can find a video tutorial of this method here, but if you're more of a 'list' person, keep reading.)

Hello, lovely readers! Today I'm going to share with you how I got my dusty rose colored hair at home. Let's get started!

Step 1. Gather your supplies. You'll need:

Step 2. Begin with pre-lightened hair. The lighter and more pastel you want to go, the lighter your hair must be to begin with. I began with silver hair, which made getting my ideal color a little more tricky. I had to compensate for the coolness of my silver hair by using a warmer, more bubblegum pink color in order to get a dusty rose. If you're starting with bleached hair, use a color closer to your desired outcome! Find my favorite bleach here.

My starting point

Step 2. Mix your dye. I chose to dilute my dye with white conditioner to make the color more pastel. Doing this allows you to use less dye (aka save some $$) and give yourself a conditioning treatment while the concoction is on your hair! Start with a small amount of dye and use a white conditioner so that you can see the true color of the mixture as you're adding it in. Be sure to make enough to cover your entire head!

This is what my mixture looked like

Step 4. Apply dye to your hair. Work in sections to avoid missing any spots. If you're patient, you can do a strand test first (apply dye to a small section of hair) to determine how long to leave the dye on. I am not patient, and ended up leaving the dye on for around 45 minutes. Since it's a semi-permanent dye, it won't chemically damage your hair like a permanent dye will, so you have a little more leeway with how long you leave it in.

Recruit a buddy if you need someone to help get the back of your head😜

Step 5. Rinse and style. Semi-permanent dyes typically only last a few washes, so to prolong your color, rinse your hair in cold water and shampoo as little as possible. When I rinsed my hair, I didn't shampoo or condition since the dye sitting on my hair was mixed with conditioner. Once you've rinsed, style your hair as desired and enjoy your awesome new color!

All done! I moved on from this color when I found out I was pregnant and freaked out and felt like I needed a 'normal mom color' (sigh), but when it's time to change things up, I'll definitely be going back to pink! And if you're interested in how I style my hair, I have a video on it, too! Here it is.

Thank you all for reading. Now, get to dyeing! xo Hailey
