(Psst. I have a video tutorial on this hairstyle. It's here if you want to watch it!)
Ever wondered how those girls on Pinterest get their perfectly tossled, un-done, messy curls? Ready to take your curls from porcelain doll to Khloe Kardashian? Here's how!

STEP 1. Gather your supplies. These are the things you'll need:
3/4-1" curling iron. I've been using a Conair 3/4", but my favorite is the Hot Tools 1"
Macadamia Salt Spray to break up the curls and add texture
Schwarzkopf Texturizing Powder to give volume at the root
Schwarzkopf Mess-Merizing Hairspray for texture and hold
A wide tooth comb
Monat Rejuvenique Hair Oil. My Market Partner ID is 632854 if you want to order yourself some!

STEP 2. Begin curling! Start by curling a 1" section of hair to the root. Roll the curling iron down midshaft while leaving the ends out. Hold for a few seconds, release, then twist the curl to create a tight spiral.
Tip! Curl all front pieces away from the face, then alternate the direction of the curls. Curl 1 toward the face, the next one away, next one toward, etc. Alternating the direction of the curls will keep them from clumping together and will give you maximum volume!

Step 3. Begin adding texture to the hair. This part is my favorite! It transforms your hair from lifeless, "babydoll" curls to the va-va-voom volume we all know and love (lol at my face in that pic).
First, add the texturizing sea salt spray. I spray this through the roots and midshaft of the hair. This is going to help separate the curls and give some volume. Place hands on scalp and shake the curls out. I also do a scrunching, rubbing technique to help rough the curls up. The sea salt spray in this step can be substituted with the texturizing powder. I prefer the spray, but both work well.
Second, add the texturizing hairspray. This is going to further separate the curls and give you a light hold. Heads up, it smells truly awful. BUT, it works wonders. Best part is that if your curls start to fall throughout the day, all you have to do is scrunch your curls back up, shake your head, and you're back to big, messy hair.
Third, use a wide tooth comb to lightly backcomb your hair. This part is up to personal preference and how large you want your hair to be (it can get LARGE with all of the texturizing products). I don't like much volume towards the top of my head, so I lift a section up about ear-level and backcomb the underside of the section I've lifted, as well as the section left underneath. This creates the appearance of having thicker hair.
Lastly, finish off with a hair serum or shine spray. Since we left the ends sticking straight out, we want them to look smooth. I focus the serum only on the ends of my hair and use whatever is left over on my hands to gently smooth down any fly-aways.

And that's it! If you find your hair has a tough time holding curl you can finish with an extra-hold hairspray, but I tend to skip that step. For me, this style looks great for 2 days, with a few minor touch-ups. You can make this hair as big and as messy as you like. Get to it! And don't forget, if you want to watch the video I filmed creating this style, you can find it here. xo Hailey
